Dr.Robin, please clarify a few things. I'm a bit confused about the projects in 7336 and 7358.
1-We were assigned a theme in 7336 for our group project. Is that theme also to be used for 7358 project or are we able to develop a project on ideas of our choice?
2- Are the digital pictures assigned to be taken this week in 7358 to be about 7358 individual project or for 7336 group project?
Thank you!

Emmie to my understanding Dr. Robin wants us to take photos of the theme we are using in Cam's class. The pictures are due for the next class meeting. You and your partner do not need to work together for Dr. Robins pictures.

I was under the understanding also that Dr.Robins wanted us to make his project one that is personal to us, so when he said use the theme from Cam's class to develope his project I was like OK! So I will ask about that myself.

What are the essential equipment and software needed to produce above average products in digital form? I am teaching an elective in multi media and would like to get the best possible hardware and software for my students. also, i thought i saw a storyboarding software>>

"All bloggers should be hauled into the street and shot"! That lovely quote is courtesy of my husband. He clearly is not a fan of the blogging. I'm not nearly as close-minded when it comes to keeping a blog, but I wonder should EVERYONE have their say? I mean there is a reason why publishers turn manuscripts down. Publishers and editors of the printed word strip away the boring and foolish so that readers can get higher quality products. Anyone have any thoughts on the subject?

I too was very confused on the projects that we were to produced. However, I believe Alma explained it correctly.
Are we suppose to have pics for the next class pertaining to our theme? If so, how many?

... I heard Cam say thank you to Dr. Robin when Dr. Robin said that we should take shots of things pertaining to our assigned topic in his (Cam's) class.

I also have a question: Are allowed to use video clips in the final project?

Quesion 1
You mentioned in class we should take pictures of everything. Should we take pictures of people, places, and things that do not pertain to our project or is this something we should do separately from our project?

Question 2
I wanted to know if our project for your class has to be a personal digital story about self. Because you mentioned in class we could use our assigned project (which is Fashion for me) to complete our project for your class.

Comment
This is my first time working with Picasa 3, and I think it is a great software and user-friendly for all.

Dr. Robin,

Q1. I may have missed this one, but is there a way to get to your blog from your blog instead of typing in the url. This is my very first time using a blog.

Q2. I also had the same concern as Alma, but I think I understand now.

Q3. I have been trying to change my display name, but I have not been successful yet. Please advise

From my understanding, we are supposed to post three pictures (that pertain to our topic in Cam's class) to our personal blog and email the link to our blog to Dr. Robin.

I really like Picasa, although I use a Mac and it is not compatible (yet?). Like Dr. Robin said, it allows you to do a lot more interesting things, such as creating collages, than IPhoto does. While I do like the simplicity of IPhoto, Picasa does a great job for being free software!

I, too, would like more clarification regarding the project for Dr. Robin's class. If this is a separate project for this course, I would like the option of choosing my own topic if at all possible.

To be honest, I am not a fan of blogging. I spend so much time on the on-line portions of class that it is very hard to get away from my computer. I find it ironic that technology is my group's topic.....

Please see my personal blog for a technological upset that occurred this weekend. I am posting it as a mini-digital story....

I recommend taking a bunch of pictures that could, if need be, be used in Dr. White, oops I mean Cameron's class. Here's what I did

It was so fun! I was pleased with the clarity I got at such close range.
My camera is a point and shoot Nikon cool pix s7c

Hello Everyone,

In response to some questions that students have posted, let me try to provide some answers.

First, I would like to remind you that the Hands-On Assignment for Class 2 states that you should: "shoot a series of pictures with a digital camera on a particular topic, either related to pop culture or not." This means you can choose to take the pictures for this assignment on any topic, as long as the pictures are on that topic, not just a random series of images.

Also, for this week's assignment, you should "try to post at least 3 different pictures to your personal blog.”

But, if you want to post more than 3, that's fine.

Regarding the digital story that each of you will be creating as the final semester project, let me try to explain my understanding of how that will work.

Students in Cameron's course will work in pairs to develop a lesson related to a Pop Culture theme that was randomly assigned when they selected cards in class last week.

Then for my course, each student will create a digital story on one aspect of that same pop culture theme, but with a more narrow focus, since the themes on the cards were fairly broad and the digital stories need to be less general and more specific.

And each member of the student pairs must choose a different, but related topic for their digital stories.
So, if the broad theme is “sports” for example, one student might create a digital story on “astronomical salaries that athletes make” and the other student could choose “the influence of the Olympics on politics, advertising, and national pride.”

I hope this helps but please post questions or comments, if you have them, and we can discuss this more in class this week.

I like Picassa because is very user-friendly and free.
Blog creation was something I am going to use to post one on my school website. I see several school that have been using it for a while and mine was getting behind on the blogging thing. It was a great thing to learn how easy is to create a blog. Sometimes it is difficult to learn things by ourselves even if they are not complicated.

I've never used Picasa and I'm pleasantly surprised by how easy it is to transfer images to my blog. I'm still learning to navigate around the software but overall, I am satisfied and expect to eventually begin using it exclusively to view my pictures.

This assignment was a lot of fun.

My own blog details some of the problems I had with loading Picasa...none of which were the fault of Picasa but my own foolish endeavor. Picasa loaded very easily on my old Windows XP machine and the ability to upload to my blog is wonderful.

One comment I have from the material is the use of different lighting is amazing from natural morning to flash. In some of my photos the shadowing that the flash created was frustrating at first - then when I reviewed them again I liked the effect.

When the kids were talking about blogging I thought that it would be out of my reach but it was pretty self explanatory. It was easy to do. The Piacasso picture program was very cool I wish I could have found it earlier.

I personally had fun setting up my blog and collage last week. I'll admit that although I try to use a lot of technology in my own classroom, that I am also not so tech-savy. One question I have...are the individual blogs going to be available to everyone in the class so we can browse each others' work? If so, how will the adresses be posted?

I have questions too regarding the project for Dr. Robin's class and how it relates to the one in Cam's. I had a topic in mind for my digital photography class, but that would not work for the final project in Cam's class, so would like a little clarification.

I read some of the comments concerning blogging, and have to say this is the first time I have ever created a bog or participated in one. I am still not sure whether I hate it or think it's awesome.

I feel a little bit the same way (not sure how I feel about blogging). I am a very busy person (as I'm sure we all are!!). With 2 jobs and now school too, I really value my personal time. I don't have internet, computer, or cable t.v. at home. In my free time I like to read, listen to NPR, and occasionally watch a good film or PBS. I think I was born in the wrong generation or something.

I always have perceived blogging as something that is mainly for entertainment and basically a big time-suck. However, I am quickly changing my mind. So far, I like the whole blogging thing, because I'm getting something out of it and forcing myself to get out of the box and try something new. I'm also learning about technology that can be applied in my classroom, and maybe even more importantly, getting involved in a way to communicate with other educators about teaching and learning. I think I may have to free up some time to add a little blogging to my life.

Two years ago I purchased my first SLR camera. I have enjoyed the process of improving my picture taking skills. I also have two, not so great, digital cameras. I am familiar with the photostory process. My wife just purchased me a nice digital recorder. I am looking forward to learning how to create digital documentaries.

I have found Picasa to be very user friendly. I was surprised to find some very technology iliterate family members using it when I went home to visit. I really like the ease of searching through pictures.

I thought that the information was rather straight forward. I look forward to using the cannon rebels we have here at citelab...they're great and we're lucky to have them.
