computer experince on a scale of 1-10 I would say 71/2. I know how to use photostory. Learning how to create a very nice one will be a challange.

My name is Hannah. I am an 8th grade Communications Applications (speech) teacher. I think my computer skills are above average, but definitely not expert. I have made several digital stories before using both Photostory and iMovie. I currently am using a Canon PowerShot digital camera. I do not have extensive photography skills, but am comfortable with the camera in general. I am looking forward to learning how to incorporate video into digital stories.

My name is Chi-Liang, my friend call me Leon. This is the first year of my doctoral study in UH, so I have lots of things to learn and get used to. I have used my Nikon D50 for almost 3 years. I also used Premiere and produced some instructional video similar to digital storytelling before. I hope that I can learn more about digital storytelling in this class.

Trish Klenow here, I teach art at Channelview high school, this is my 14th year teaching. I'll say my tech rating is only a 5 out of 10. I'm hoping this class will kick me up a few notches. I love my digital cameras, and I've had an "old school" photo class with an slr. I'm also an artist, so that should be an advantage.

Hello, my name is Coretta. I am an Information Process Technician for the City.

I'm really excited about this class! This will be my first time working with digital pictures and creating digital stories.

I can't wait to learn about the different applications and how to become a digital storyteller.

Hi! My name is Lorena(Luz Lorena) Torres and I work at Moreno Elementary in HISD. I think my computer skills are average and I handle several technology aspects at school. I have worked with Photostory before creating slide shows for school. Last semester I took Ed. uses of Digital Video where we implemented Premiere Elements on video production. Photography has been something I have been doing for a while, but I am in the learning process of digital photography. I have played a little with photo editing using Adobe Photoshop. I think this class will give me a more complete insight on digital storytelling, and what can and can’t be done when it is used in education.

I teach 7 and 8th Grade at Sharpstown Middle School. I am working on a Masters and hope to get my doctorate soon after. I believe I can use a computer fairly well; however, I am not that great with advanced technology such as photography in the computer, etc. I love taking pictures, usually of my daughter, but I can not say that I am doing a great job of how to edit them.

My name is Steve Guthrie. I am an Instructional Design/Change Management/Project Management consultant.

My comfort level with various software and hardware technologies is advanced due to my work in the technology sector. Nonetheless, I have no experience in digital storytelling, very limited time using iMovie and as a result I am very excited about learning the various tools and techniques specific to these types of digital narrative projects. Of particular interest is the differences/availability of software both free and at cost for Mac and Windows.

I will be using a Olympus FE-340 for this class. My previous digital camera was a Cannon PowerShot A60, which I loved.

Randy Takaoka,
I am currently teaching history in middle school. I had taken the HISD MTT course to enhance my abilities in the classroom: Using multi-media in the classroom was a natural course with teaching history. My experience and abilities would probably be a 7.

Nancy, here. First time back to school in many years. Computer experience is about a 2, cameras - well, I still use disposables - no lie! I'm really eager to learn, though if someone would just TEACH me!

I had used several models in the past: currently a Canon sureshot:
We have conducted history fair in the past and documentaries are one of the categories: Teaching, developing and producing documentaries are some of the experiences I had gained during this process. I hope to become more of an expertise in this area for the benefit of my students.

My name is Sam Cook. I am currently working on my Master's. I am the specialty Foods Manager at Central Market. I would say that my computer skills are about average. I have no experience with digital story-telling. I have a Canon Rebel XSI although I have little experience with it.

My name is Daniel Santos and I teach 6th grade World Culture at Jackson Middle School (HISD). I own an Olympus Stylus 750 and I think that my computer skills are somewhat above average. I've created Photostories for my class and for Student Council. My photography skills however, I admit, are only average. I do hope to learn how to incorporate video in my presentations.

Hello Everyone:
I have been with Lone Star College System distance learning since 2003 but now am senior instructional designer for the new direction with Lone Star College-Online since June, which is very exciting!Experience with:
Technology in general – I began with an Apple in 1987 when I decided to return to teaching after traveling with my husband in the service and then starting a family. I thought I’d be behind and needed to learn about computers. Little did I know that once in the schools again that I’d be the campus guru! After taking introduction to computers in 1987 on DOS and having to put the Apple aside while learning – was thankful the schools had Apples. I basically learned on my own what I needed to fit the purposes that I had.
Digital photography – I purchased a digital camera in the mid nineties and was and still am a point and click photographer but the pictures had purposes for me with my students and for the school website and sharing with family on ISP web space.
Digital Storytelling – for about 4-5 years I compiled photos I had taken during the school year of the 4th graders at lunch, recess, in classes, etc. Fourth was the highest grade in my school at the time. I put the photos into iMovie with music and eventually combined them with video clips of special events. It was shown at the graduation to parents and students and always was fun for everyone. As well as other similar type projects years ago when still teaching, I would also and still create iMovie memories of family Christmases and one of my Mother for her 80th birthday. However, they were all personal with no educational value. That will be my challenge to integrate personal and passion with educational value.
Type digital camera – I finally replaced my CASIO QV 300 with a Pentax Optio M10 a couple of years ago when I could no longer connect because I couldn’t get upgraded software. I hadn’t used the Casio for awhile since leaving K-12 environment and my family all had digital cameras by that time.
Technical Skills hoping to gain from this course – I would like to learn something about photography since I’m just a point and click user. I would be interested in learning about some of the features of the Rebel cameras from the Cite Lab and their purposes. I’d like to better understand about image resolution and learn about the free software along with ideas for online student projects using that software.

My name is Cristina. I am working on my masters and teaching certification , and hopefully next year will be in a classroom full time. I am a substitute for Spring Branch and do some translating work at home on the side. I have been a stay at home mom for the last three years, and have been going to school the whole time.
I took a technology class last semester, so my skills have improved, and I would say I am not amazing but do can do some above average things with technology. I made a couple of digital photostories last semester, but nothing as nice as what Dr. Robin showed in class. I am really looking forward to creating some better photostories with the audio portion.
I have a Kodak digital camera, and some really nice software that lets me do just about anything to my pictures.

I'm Julie. I am an amateur (very very amateur) photographer. I use a Canon Powershot for casual shooting, and a Nikon N75 (film) when I travel. I'm fairly proficient with photo editing software. I have PhotoShop at home but haven't really had the time to play with it. Maybe for this class!!

I am Mark Hargrove, I in one of my lives am a graduate student at UHCL (I am doing my internship here at UH with Dr. Robin) and in other lives am a self-employed graphic designer, Art Institute instructor, husband and father of three (there are other sub-lives that I will not mention here). I have been working with visual communication technology all of my professional life. It has been in the last 9 years that animation, video and audio have become more prominent in the mix. FYI, my career as an artist started in the second grade, thank you Mrs. Knapp, and until 1986 my tools of choice were all hands on or hands in.

I have been using an Olympus digital SLR camera for the last few years and have come appreciate freedom from the dark room, more and more, as technology improves.

I have experience of some sort or dabbled in a program, or similar program, that we will be using in the course but have never combined them to create the out come of a digital story or narrative. I look forward to the marriage.

Hello to all! I am an 8th grade U.S. History Teacher at Lamar B. Fleming Middle School in HISD. I have used both Photostory 3 and Movie Maker with my students for various competitions such as National History Day and the Digital Fair. I own a Casio 7.2 megapixel Exilim camera. I use my digital camera often to make family photostories, but I do not have extensive photography experience. I am looking forward to learning new ways to incorporate photography and digital stories to enhance learning.

I teach 8th Grade US History. My computer skills are above average, I believe. I tend to be a visual learner who has to see it than do it. I have created a couple of photostories but I am ready to learn new skills.

Vacide said...

Hello Everyone,
I am Vacide. I am a doctorate student in C&I, program area Second Language Education. I like to learn about ways I can integrate technology with language teaching. Last Fall semester I took the Web Design course and was amazed that I could create a functional, educational web site where previously words like HTML, Javascript, coding were so Greek to me. So, I am looking forward to learn about digital photography and storytelling and add them to technology skills.

I have been using a Sony Cybershot 5.1 digital camera for several years now. Although I am pretty familiar with uploading images to the web, resizing them, etc, I am very novice in using the features it has. I believe through this class I will become more familiar with my camera and the user's manual!

I believe that a picture is worth a thousand words and through photography or images a foreign language can be taught more effectively. I hope to gain more knowledge in this area.

Have a great semester.
